HOMETOWN: Willingboro, New Jersey

I was born in Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA, December 13, 1943, son of Harry George & Lila Lee (nee Packard) Woodworth. My father was killed in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge on December 25, 1944, so I was raised by my mother and her parents. I graduated from Brockton High School in 1961. In 1964 I enlisted in the United States Air Force for 4 years. Trained in meteorology, I saw duty in Korea, Washington State and Thailand. I began my civilian government career in meteorology in 1969 working for the United States Navy at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island, transferring in 1972 to Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. I was hired by the National Weather Service in 1980, working at Newark International Airport until 1994, when I transferred to the National Weather Service Forecast Office, Mt Holly, New Jersey. I retired from Mt Holly in 2006 but volunteered there for 5 more years. I then began my current volunteer work for a local Crisis Hotline, part of the National Suicide Prevention Program. I continued my education wherever I worked, obtaining an Associate’s Degree from Ocean County College in 1975, and graduating from Kean College now University, New Jersey, with a BA in Earth Science in 1985.

While at the Mt Holly forecast office, I took on the duty of Tsunami Focal Point. I researched the possibility that the Jersey shore and Atlantic coastline of the United States had been hit by tsunami and sent my findings to the tsunami experts in Boulder, Colorado. From my investigations, the first officially designated tsunami to hit the Jersey Shore and surrounding area was announced in a special Journal of Tsunami edition.

My hobby has been genealogy since the 1980’s. I am a typical American of mixed Old Country nationalities, having “recent” ancestors from England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Germany and more. I have ancestral roots into Colonial times and to the Mayflower, of which I am a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, with proven ancestry from Mayflower passengers John and Priscilla (nee Mullins) Alden, Richard Warren, Thomas Rogers, Francis Cook, including family members that came with them, and have an application in for John Howland. Further research proved that I am royally descended, and that I am related to many American presidents, from some of the earliest up to our most recent, the 44th President of the United States of America, the honorable Barack Hussein Obama, who is also royally descended.

I have had my paternal and maternal DNA tested. My paternal DNA results proved conclusively that I am a direct descendant of 1600s Walter Woodworth, England to Scituate, Massachusetts Bay Colony. I expected my maternal DNA results to be that of a typical northeast European lady, since my grandmother was Lithuanian, but the result presented me with a big surprise. I have a mitochondrial Asian DNA, of which DNA experts tell me is solidly Siberian.

I have written articles, given speeches and appeared on television, talking about weather, genealogy, tsunami and DNA. The November 2016 issue of American Ancestors, published by the New England Historical & Genealogical Society, mentioned my most interesting mitochondrial Asian DNA results.
